Biomedical engineers are professionals who are dedicated to advancing human health and well-being by developing and using engineering and technology. Biomedical engineering is an exciting and dynamic field where engineers, scientists and clinicians come together to answer important scientific questions in physiology and pathology through new technologies.
From diagnostic imaging to therapeutic technologies, biomedical engineering encompasses a wide range of applications, including the design, development, manufacture, and maintenance and calibration processes that keep them running at optimum performance. Medical imaging technologies (magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, computed tomography, ultrasound, optical imaging, etc.), surgical tools and robots, artificial organs (heart valves, hearing aids, dental implants, etc.), computational modeling, artificial intelligence applications in health (deep learning, biomedical image processing, etc.) are the main examples of these.
Biomedical engineering education programs consist of the engineering core as well as advanced courses in biomedical sciences, anatomy and physiology, physics and mathematics, and applying these concepts to a variety of biomedical problems. Labs allow students to quickly see the application of concepts learned in the classroom, while advanced courses introduce students to the latest developments in the field.
The mission of Akdeniz University Biomedical Engineering Department is to improve human health and well-being through excellence in education and research, at the intersection of engineering, biology and medicine. Our program is ideally within a well-established and innovative Faculty of Engineering. It is also close to the technology development center of Teknokent, which supports research and innovation in medical technologies and biotechnologies among its priority areas, as well as the basic medical scientists and doctors of a leading Medical Faculty. In this environment, utilizing these important strengths and capabilities offers exciting synergies and opportunities to facilitate new discoveries.
